&The importance of asking deeper design questions.

I was beyond excited to create this mini mural for Waxing Moon Chai, it incorporates all my favourite elements of design with a soft whimsical shape, harmonious colour pallette and gorgeous symmetry.
The most important thing I ask my clients to start the design process is how do you want the mural to feel?
I've had a lot of ephemeral and sometimes random answers but I love this question so much because it brings people out of their analytical mind and into their creative flow!
Beck from Waxing Moon Chai was such a joy to work with and when I asked her, this is what she said: 'A festival at dusk when the sky is a hazy purple and you can see the lanterns glowing through the trees."
For a cute little Chai Van that frequents markets and festivals this cozy, slightly magical vibe felt like a perfect match. Many colour swatches, design tweaks and emails later you can see Beck's original idea still shines through. With the purple background, golden moon cycle and muted green leaves everything comes together beautifully.
Nailing a clients brief is the best feeling in the world, especially with murals that are often public facing, where the purpose of the mural takes on a whole new life.
No longer just 'something pretty on the wall' when done right, public murals effortlessly communicate everything from the atmosphere of a place to the unique feel of your business.
The value they add can't quite be quantified and Beck was so happy with the way the mini mural captured the nurturing, handmade quality of her Chai Van that she's even taken on the design as her logo.
From working closely with Beck to perfect the design to meticulously hand painting the mural on her Chai Van, this little project is definitely close to my heart!
